Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about RunRival and how it works.

Getting Started

What is RunRival?

RunRival is a social running app that connects you with runners at your skill level for friendly monthly distance competitions. Think of it as "Tinder for runners" - you can swipe through potential running partners, match with compatible athletes, and compete in challenges that earn you real prizes.

Do I need a Strava account to use RunRival?

Yes, RunRival requires a Strava account to verify your running data and ensure fair competition. Strava integration allows us to analyze your pace, distance history, and running patterns to match you with compatible partners.

How much does RunRival cost?

RunRival is a premium subscription service for £2.99 per month. This subscription gives you full access to all features including unlimited matching, challenges, messaging, and entries into our monthly prize draws. You can cancel anytime with no commitment.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes — you can cancel anytime from your profile settings. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period and you won't be charged again after that.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription anytime through your profile settings under "Subscription". Your access continues until the end of your current billing period and you won't be charged again after that.

How Matching Works

How are running partners matched?

Our algorithm analyzes your Strava data including average pace, weekly distance, running frequency, and preferred times. We match you with runners who have similar fitness levels and schedules to ensure fair and motivating competitions.

Can I reject matches?

Absolutely! Just like dating apps, you can swipe left to pass on potential matches or swipe right to show interest. You'll only be able to challenge runners who have also shown interest in competing with you.

How do I find runners in my area?

While RunRival competitions are virtual (you don't need to run together), you can set location preferences to find local runners if you want to potentially meet up for group runs or local events.

Challenges & Competition

How do monthly challenges work?

Each month, you can challenge matched runners to distance competitions. You both agree on a goal (like "most miles run this month") and compete throughout the month. Your Strava data automatically tracks progress, so there's no manual logging required.

What happens if I win a challenge?

Winners earn entries into our monthly prize draw! For every runner you outperform in a challenge, you get one entry. The more challenges you win, the better your chances of winning real prizes like running gear, race entries, and gift cards.

Can I participate in multiple challenges?

Yes! You can have multiple active challenges running simultaneously with different matched partners. This gives you more opportunities to stay motivated and earn prize entries.

Prizes & Rewards

What prizes can I win?

Monthly prizes include running shoes, fitness trackers, race registration fees, running apparel, and gift cards to popular running retailers. Prize values typically range from $50 to $500.

How are prize winners selected?

At the end of each month, we conduct a random drawing from all earned prize entries. The more challenges you win, the more entries you have, but everyone has a fair chance regardless of fitness level.

When are prizes awarded?

Prize drawings happen during the first week of each month for the previous month's competitions. Winners are notified via email and in-app notification within 7 days of the drawing.

Safety & Privacy

Is my data safe?

We take privacy seriously. RunRival only accesses necessary Strava data for matching and verification. We never share your personal information, and you control what profile information is visible to other users.

Can I block or report users?

Yes, you can block users who make you uncomfortable and report inappropriate behavior. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for harassment and work quickly to address any issues.

Do I have to share my location?

Location sharing is optional. You can choose to show general area (like "Los Angeles") for local connections, or keep your location completely private while still participating in virtual challenges.

Technical Support

What if my Strava data isn't syncing?

First, check that RunRival has permission to access your Strava data in your Strava privacy settings. If issues persist, try disconnecting and reconnecting your Strava account in the RunRival settings menu.

Can I use RunRival without a smartphone?

RunRival is designed as a mobile app and requires iOS or Android. While some features may be accessible via web browser, the full experience requires the mobile app.

I found a bug or have feedback. How can I help?

We love feedback! Use the in-app feedback feature or email us at community@runrival.com. Bug reports help us improve the app for everyone.
